In recent years there has been a trend amongst newspaper and magazine publishers to run 'Free CD/DVD' promotions, in an attempt to boost circulation and sales.
The whole thing started off with 'free' CD's - usually containing hits from the past, tracks from unsigned performers or 'exclusive samples' from an artist with a new album to promote.
Things have moved on now and, although a quick look in a newsagent at the weekend will reveal any number of 'free' CD's, the current craze is for 'free' DVD's; these range from trailers and other promotional material for an upcoming cinema or DVD release, to complete episodes of TV series or even films.
Different newspapers seem to have different 'themes' - The Independent, for example, tends to have 'Arthouse' or foreign language films; The Times tends towards classics (Hitchcock being a regular in the Freebies here!); The Sun/News of the World are more populist and tend to have light British comedies with the occasional elderly 'blockbuster'.		 The films are usually older flicks with one or more big names in the acting talent, and frequently are supplied 'as is' on the disc - that is to say, without any extras (some don't even have scene selection!)
If you don't mind missing out on 'behind the scenes' footage, or commentaries, or even scene/chapter selection then these DVD's can be excellent value, considering that the most you'll pay for the newspaper is £2.00 (for some of the broadsheet 'quality' newspapers)! 
The vast majority of these DVD's were to be found in the newspaper - The exceptions (i.e. those discs which were available by token or coupon redemption in a shop or by post) are marked as appropriate.

The images are not in any particular order - just the order in which they were scanned!
These are scans of the DVD's in my collection - where possible I've included details of which newspaper or magazine the disc came with and links to imdb.com for further information about the film/tv series on the disc.  To see the imdb.com entry, just click on the name of the DVD (under the scan!) None of these are currently for sale, so please save your fingers and don't send me emails asking!  If you are keen to get hold of any of them, however, try looking on eBay.co.uk (link provided!) where you might find some of them on sale for quite reasonable prices! 
I'm not obsessive about getting every single disc issued with a newspaper, so this list is not a complete list of everything that has ever been issued!
