Promo
cards are becoming more and more popular, and more and more collectible!
Manufacturers are frequently issuing more than one promo for new sets,
and sometimes the availability of certain cards is strictly limited.
I haven't been collecting Promo cards long, but here are the ones I have
so far - more will be added as and when I get them! On the subject
of which - if you produce non sport trading cards and have no objection
to your promo appearing on this page, please get in touch - donations always
accepted gratefully! |
I
might be interested in trading the cards shown here - I do have doubles
of some, and I could be persuaded to let go of others... email
me if you are interested in anything in particular!

Fairly limited in number this
one - it is a picture of Chloe Annett (Kristine Kochanski) apparently taken
from the 'Chloe Photoshoot' chase set over a 'holofoil' background, and
with 'Promo' overprinted in the top right hand corner. |
The backing offers no information
about the set - but who needs information when the card is as beautiful
to look at as this is! |

set based on the "Bloom County" and "Outland" strips, created by Berkeley
Breathed - Apologies for the quality of the scans, but they are (as were
all the regular cards in the set) 'Chromium', and so highly reflective,
which does not make for excellent scans (though it does make for stunningly
beautiful cards!) |

For
the April/May 2004 issue of NSU magazine, Bench Warmer International issued
an exclusive promo card, featuring Kitana Baker and Tanya Balinger.
There were, in fact, several variants randomly inserted into the magazine;
one with the 'old' NSU logo, one with the 'new' NSU logo and one (severely
limited and hand numbered) signed by both Ms Baker and Ms Ballinger! |

to get Promo cards? |
|
|
|
|
|
|
Easy!
The best way is to buy Non Sport Update magazine - most issues have 1 or
2 promo cards, some have more. Occasionally, the magazine has 'NSU
Exclusive' cards - cards produced specifically for distribution with the
magazine - these are usually marked on the back of the card with the NSU
logo.
There is
also a new UK magazine, TCW (Trading Card World) this is produced monthly
and, so far, has included up to 4 promo and/or basic cards per issue. Often
these are UK Exclusives (frequently from Cards Inc.) |
UPDATE
4/11/2002 - TCW is no longer being published, but copies might still be
found in newsagents or market stalls. |

Alternatively,
you could try visiting the official web sites of the various card companies
- if they offer promos you may find details of how to claim one (note:
those that do offer to post free cards usually require a self-addressed
envelope to be sent, with the appropriate postage, either in postage stamps
(US postage stamps for American companies) or International Reply Coupons.
It is well
worth checking by email if they will accept I.R.C's - some don't. |

You can also sometimes
find promo cards stuck to the front of genre specific magazines (such as
"Buffy The Vampire Slayer", "Dreamwatch", "The X-Files Magazine", "Wizard"
or "SFX") You may even find an 'exclusive' promo - Cards Inc., a
UK based dealer and distributor, often gets UK exclusive cards from companies,
and these can sometimes be found on the aforementioned mags! |

You
could do a lot worse than going to the Non-Sport
Update 'Card Talk' bulletin board - members regularly have cards to
trade, and will often post details of new offers! |

|
|
|
|
Finally, you can
usually purchase promo cards from dealers, or from an online auction site
such as eBay, though you will pay a premium for what was originally a 'free'
advert... |
